Seven Building Blocks of Principal Leadership
I, the Principal, understand that I play a key role in creating a values-centered school culture. Therefore, I pledge to be consistent and proactive in leading the school each day by:
- Using the Values Code words daily in all speech and written documents, such as announcements, student-parent handbooks, and student referrals.
- Frequently encouraging teachers and staff throughout the day to use the Values Code terminology as a common language in all classroom instruction and interactions with students, staff, and parents.
- Regularly integrating the Values Code into the school culture when creating mission statements, school plans, academic achievement records, annual calendars, visual displays, and report cards, and by creating a school-wide discipline plan centered around the Values Code.
- Creating and implementing evaluation and observation techniques and instruments that specifically evaluate whether your school is successfully infusing values into students' lives. Use these instruments three times a year to provide feedback to teachers and staff.
- Reminding students and staff to keep a Values Code card on the refrigerator at home, and encouraging staff to utilize the Values Code terminology when communicating with parents.
- Proactively and personally training new teachers in how to implement the Values Code, and utilize time during staff development meetings to encourage and have teachers share Values Infusion methods.
- Committing to memory these Seven Building Blocks of Principal Leadership, the Values Code, and the Six Building Blocks of Values Infusion, in order to create a values-centered learning environment.
